September 14 Meeting to Offer Communications and Government Relations: Finding the Intersection of PR and Advocacy to Reach Policymakers and Win on Issues

This event will focus on tools and tactics that can help PR practitioners and lobbyists work more closely together and succeed in advancing and achieving an organization’s lobbying and public policy goals. For many organizations, the government relations staff interfaces with political decision-makers to explain positions on key issues, whether it’s legislation or rule-making by a federal agency. But today’s instant news cycle and tightened rules on lobbying have created important new roles for communications experts in the advocacy process. Our panel of top experts will show how these two critical functions can collaborate in the integrated and overlapping environment that is Harrisburg.

When: Tuesday, September 14, 2010
Where: Metro Bank Corporate Office
3801 Paxton Street (in the TecPort Business Park)
Harrisburg, PA 17111
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Central PA PRSA presents nationally recognized writing coach Ann Wylie

Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Media Center at JPL

The Central PA PRSA Chapter is proud to present Ann Wylie on Thursday, October 7, at The Media Center at JPL in Harrisburg. Ann will be presenting her popular half-day workshop Think Like a Reader.

The secret to writing to persuade is to position your messages in your audience’s best interests. (Most communicators position their messages in their organization’s best interests.)

In this session, you’ll learn a four-step process for making your message — and your organization — more relevant, valuable and rewarding to your audience. Specifically, you’ll learn:

  • The formula people use to determine which messages to pay attention to
  • Two rewards you can use to boost audience interest in your message
  • The No. 1 question to answer on your reader’s behalf
  • A two-minute perspective shift that focuses your message on the value to the audience
  • A simple translation process that pushes audience benefits to the top of your message
  • A three-letter word to use to make your message more relevant to your audience

Ann's three-hour program will include a continental breakfast and lunch. Seating is limited, and the workshop is open to chapter members and non-members. We encourage you to consider bringing other members of your team who are interested in strengthening their writing skills. More details and registration information will follow shortly, but mark your calendars now for this special opportunity!

Registration can be completed by submitting payment via the web site using PayPal. Or, you may RSVP to the Chapter Administrator at If pre-registering via email, payment at the door in the form of cash or a check is required for participation in the program.
